J.D. Vance Is Trump and Big Oil’s Dream Come True

Washington, D.C. – In response to Donald Trump picking J.D. Vance to run as his vice presidential running mate, Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“J.D. Vance is Donald Trump’s dream come true — a climate denier who is all too happy to do Big Oil’s bidding and pad their profits at the expense of working people. In his short time in office, he’s worked tirelessly to end President Biden’s clean energy boom that’s created over 300,000 jobs, even if it harms Ohioans who have seen billions in clean energy investments. Let’s be clear: a Trump-Vance administration will reverse our climate and clean energy progress, risking hundreds of thousands of jobs, and give Big Oil a free pass to dirty our air and water. We cannot allow an out-of-touch, pro-polluter ticket to win in November.”
Here’s J.D. Vance’s Big Oil-backed record:
- Is a top recipient of Big Oil funds and has financial ties to the oil and gas industry.
- Says that climate change is a “created…environmental crisis, just to justify Democratic donors.”
- Criticized the clean energy plan that’s created 13,669 jobs already in his own state of Ohio, saying it “does nothing for the environment, and will make us all poorer.”
- Groveled to Trump by winning a race to the bottom of the Republican Party on climate conspiracy theories.
- Thinks there is no climate crisis, saying, “I’m skeptical of the idea that climate change is caused purely by man. That’s basically the argument they’re making. It’s been changing, as others pointed out, it’s been changing for millennia.”
- Opposes clean energy from wind turbines because they’re “ridiculously ugly,” and “don’t produce enough electricity to run a cell phone on.”
- Calls electric vehicles “a scam” and wants to replace funds for EVs built in his own state with subsidies for gas-fueled cars.
