Climate Featured in Primetime, Every Hour of DNC

Washington, D.C. — From lowering energy costs to protecting our clean air and water, climate action was highlighted every single hour of the 2024 Democratic National Convention. The DNC and Kamala Harris put climate action in the primetime lineup on the final night of the convention, the night with the highest viewership, highlighting its importance as part of Harris’ pitch to voters and a significant contrast between the Democratic ticket and Trump, a climate-denier. Climate action, investing in clean energy, lowering energy costs, the freedom to enjoy clean air and water, and other climate-related themes were mentioned 136 times throughout the week, up from only 93 mentions at the 2020 DNC.

Climate Power Communications Director Alex Glass released the following statement:

“The special guest at the Democratic National Convention on its final night was climate. Democrats put climate front and center – and in primetime – on the night with its highest viewership. Not only is fighting the climate crisis a winning issue, but lowering energy costs, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs, and cleaning up our air and water are among our most persuasive arguments and show a stark contrast with Donald Trump, who would sell our economic growth and health to his Big Oil donors for a billion dollars in campaign contributions. Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are fighting to bring down costs, create jobs, and protect the middle class – that’s what climate action is all about.”
