Climate Power Releases New Video in Project 2025 Series Featuring Movement Lawyer Olayemi Olurin

Washington, D.C. —  Today, Climate Power released the newest installment in their “Too Hot Not To Vote” campaign, featuring movement lawyer and abolitionist Olayemi Olurin. In the video, Olurin calls on young voters to make a plan to vote this November, stressing the urgent need to block Donald Trump’s harmful Project 2025 agenda. As communities continue to suffer from extreme weather, Olurin highlights the dangerous consequences of Trump’s plan, which would dismantle critical climate change protections for marginalized communities.

“This extreme MAGA handbook calls to eliminate the Office of Environmental Justice and the Office of External Civil Rights within the EPA,” said Olurin in the video. “Those offices are directly responsible for advocating for people of color. Access to clean air and water should not be reserved for those with means. It is a basic right– not a privilege. Make a plan to vote.”

Olayemi Olurin, a movement lawyer, political commentator, and abolitionist thinker, has dedicated her career to defending those most impacted by systemic oppression. As a public defender in New York City, she represents individuals who cannot afford legal representation–disenfranchised Black and brown people who are too often overlooked by society. Her advocacy aligns with Climate Power’s mission to protect vulnerable communities from the devastating impacts of climate change and environmental deregulation.

Olurin’s involvement amplifies Climate Power’s goal of mobilizing young voters to stand up against Bil Oil companies and corporate interests driving Project 2025–a plan that threatens to strip away critical environmental protections and would disproportionately harm Black communities for generations to come.

As Election Day approaches, the stakes couldn’t be higher: Vice President Kamala Harris understands that climate change is an existential crisis affecting lives and homes across the nation. In stark contrast, Donald Trump, a known climate change denier, is pushing Project 2025—a plan that threatens to exacerbate environmental degradation by dismantling pollution controls and public land protections.

The “Too Hot Not To Vote” campaign is a voter engagement initiative designed to educate, motivate, and mobilize young voters to support climate and clean energy champions like Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz in the 2024 elections. Voters are encouraged to visit TooHotNotToVote.com to make a voting plan, check their registration status, and learn about candidates’ climate records.

WHY THIS MATTERS: Climate Power’s $10 million Black Engagement Program aims to elevate climate change and clean energy as central issues in Black voter mobilization ahead of the 2024 election. This culturally focused campaign emphasizes climate change’s unequal impact on Black communities while amplifying their voices in national politics.
