In Last Night’s Debate between Senator Bob Casey and Dave McCormick, Climate Discussion Highlighted the Stark Choice for Pennsylvania Voters this November

Philadelphia, PA —Last night, Senator Bob Casey and Dave McCormick met for their second debate in Philadelphia. The candidates were asked about their climate positions, and their answers highlighted the stark choice in front of Pennsylvania voters this November.

McCormick falsely claimed fossil fuels were beneficial to the fight against the climate crisis (they’re not)  and doubled down on his opposition to the Biden-Harris administration’s clean energy plan that has spurred over $1.08 billion in private investment in Pennsylvania since its passage and is revitalizing our manufacturing towns.

“What he’s making reference to is legislation that allows us through tax credits to invest in a clean energy economy, that’s creating lots of jobs, thousands of jobs already in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Bob Casey during last night’s debate. “A whole new part of our economy opening up. Huge private sector investment because of those tax credits. He doesn’t support that, I do.”

The clean energy plan has already created more than 330,000 clean energy jobs across the country, including 2,881  jobs in Pennsylvania—jobs that will be at risk if McCormick and Trump are elected. Not to mention, the 158,550 Pennsylvanian’s who saved over $267 million on clean energy and energy efficiency investments in 2023 thanks to tax credits from the clean energy plan.

Climate is a top issue for Pennsylvania voters in this election and Dave McCormick and Donald Trump are completely out of touch with voters’ attitudes. According to recent polling, Pennsylvanians overwhelmingly support increasing clean energy in the state—including 84% of independents. Even 59% of Republicans support increasing clean energy in the state.

The choice before voters could not be more clear: Will we continue to combat the climate crisis and invest in clean energy, turbocharging American manufacturing while giving families more affordable and reliable energy choices? Or will we reject climate science in the face of catastrophe, stifle America’s booming clean energy economy, and allow Big Oil to pollute and profiteer without constraint or competition?
