Tonight: Baldwin’s Clean Energy Economy vs. Hovde’s Fossil Fuel Allegiance

Madison, WI— Ahead of tonight’s U.S. Senate debate between Senator Tammy Baldwin and GOP Senate candidate Eric Hovde, it’s more important than ever to lay out the facts on the climate and clean energy issues facing Wisconsin. A Climate Power poll found 65% of Wisconsin voters say climate change and clean energy will be important to their vote, including 78% of voters aged 18-34.
Senator Tammy Baldwin kickstarted a money-saving, clean energy transition in Wisconsin:
- Baldwin cast a key vote in support of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which has helped families save money and bolstered Wisconsin’s clean energy and manufacturing economy.
- In 2023, over 73,000 families in Wisconsin saved $91 million in clean energy tax credits for home projects that will help reduce their monthly electricity bills.
- Wisconsin families can now save between $1,500 to $10,000 on energy-efficient upgrades thanks to the IRA-funded Home Efficiency Rebates Program.
- Since the IRA passed, more than $940 million in new clean energy investments have been announced in Wisconsin, spurring at least 1,962 new clean energy jobs.
- Wisconsin expects to have over 24,000 new jobs and an estimated $4 billion in clean power generation and energy storage investments by 2030.
- Additionally, Baldwin has secured funding to address extreme heat, air pollution, and water pollution for the people of Wisconsin.
Eric Hovde is attacking climate solutions and clean energy for his own personal gains just like Donald Trump and his Big Oil benefactors:
- Hovde has received over $50,000 from the energy/natural resources sector and one of his largest donors is natural gas company Energy Transfer LP.
- Hovde has joined Trump and Vance in denying the impacts of climate change.
- Big Oil groups – including the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers and groups closely tied to oil billionaire Charles Koch– have spent millions on ads supporting Hovde.
- Hovde opposed the Inflation Reduction Act and called it a “big, ugly bill,” despite pitching his bank clients on “big solar green energy tax credits.” His bank committed to funding more than $200 million in commercial solar projects annually and pointed to solar credits contained in the bill.
- Now Hovde “wholeheartedly” opposes tax credits for clean energy and claims anyone who believes in transitioning to a clean energy economy is “smoking crack cocaine.”
- Hovde’s personal finances show he’s made over $5 million from electric vehicle stocks while he campaigned against them and spread the lie that Democrats are mandating them.
- Hovde also repeated Trump’s lies about the federal government’s response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Tonight Wisconsinites will see which candidate is looking out for the needs and well-being of Wisconsin families, and which candidate is spreading fake information to advance their own self-gaining agenda.
