Tonight’s Senate Debate Showed Rosen is the Clear Choice for Nevadans on Climate, Water, and Energy

Las Vegas, NV — Tonight, Senator Jacky Rosen and Sam Brown met for a debate in Las Vegas. The candidates were asked about expanding clean energy, the state’s water crisis, and Yucca Mountain, and their answers highlighted how only one candidate is putting Nevadans first – Senator Jacky Rosen.
“As Nevadans across the state are coping with the impacts of extreme heat in October, the costs of the climate crisis are here today,” said Tiffany Hsieh, Climate Power’s Nevada State Desk. “There’s only one candidate in the race who stands on the side of working families and will stand up to Big Oil price-gouging and invest in a clean energy future that lowers costs and creates jobs here in Nevada: that candidate is Jacky Rosen.”
Recent polling shows how important climate and clean energy are to voters. Senator Rosen is a climate champion for Nevadans and has fought to expand Nevada’s clean energy economy, helping over 41,000 Nevadan families save more than $151 million through clean energy tax credits.
On water, Senator Jacky Rosen cosponsored legislation to address the drought and water issues in Nevada, while Sam Brown has not offered any plan or solution to address the problem. Brown has also flip-flopped on supporting nuclear waste storage at Yucca Mountain.
This race mirrors the choice we face as a country: As vice president, Harris cast the decisive vote to pass the clean energy plan, tripling clean energy production and saving Americans $38 billion on electricity bills. This plan has created over 330,000 clean energy jobs nationwide, including 20,448 in Nevada—jobs that will be at risk if Trump and his allies take power again. Nevada Republican Senate candidate Sam Brown has already shown he can be counted on to support Trump’s extremist agenda and has proposed cutting federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy. Brown has made it clear he would have voted against both the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—key measures that are delivering jobs and lower costs to Nevada families.
