GOP Plays Politics with Wildfire Aid

Washington, D.C. — In response to House Speaker Mike Johnson considering linking California wildfire aid to a debt limit increase, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:

“Tens of thousands of Americans have been devastated by the Los Angeles wildfires – losing family members, neighbors, their homes, and irreplaceable possessions. They need relief now. Donald Trump has a long history of politicizing and withholding disaster relief based on a community’s political affiliation – and it seems Republican leadership in Congress is already taking their cues from the president-elect. Disaster victims need help now — and relief can’t be held up for political reasons or policy debates. Congress must approve relief for those devastated by the LA wildfires.”
