Trump’s Agenda is Raising Your Costs, Cancelling Your Jobs, and Leaving You on the Hook for National Disasters

Washington, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“Just forty-two days into Trump’s presidency, we are paying more. From the grocery store to the gas pump and utility bills, prices keep going up. His policies are costing us nearly 1,000 good-paying energy jobs a day. To top it off, he’s telling families and businesses they’re on their own to recover from national disasters and threatening to put the National Weather Service behind a paywall. All to give huge new tax breaks to billionaires and big corporations. ‘Just a little disturbance,’ Trump says.”
In just over one month since Donald Trump took office, his actions have hiked up costs and put our communities at risk:
- 42,493 announced clean energy jobs, representing more than $57 billion in investment, and 64 projects have been canceled or stalled since Donald Trump’s election. A full list of lost or impacted jobs can be found here.
- Electricity prices are on track to be the highest since the 1990s.
- Trump’s proposed tariffs would increase gas prices for Americans by at least 15 cents per gallon.
- Trump’s federal funding cuts stalled hiring for federal firefighters who fight and prevent wildfires.
- Trump is gutting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service, putting life-saving weather alerts at risk.
- Trump is gutting staff and funding that provide necessary aid to rebuild communities that have been devastated by climate disasters.
