Hurricane Season Is Here, Trump Has Left Us Unprepared

Washington, D.C. — This weekend marked the beginning of the Atlantic hurricane season. For weeks, experts have been warning that Trump’s reckless cuts to disaster response have left us unprepared and at risk. Trump has slashed the programs we rely on for lifesaving alerts during extreme weather and the resources that support communities in rebuilding after a storm.

Climate Power communications director Alex Glass issued the following statement:

“Hurricanes are dangerous, deadly, and costly. Trump closed his campaign for president by exploiting the victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and saying he’d make us all safer – the reality couldn’t be farther from his promises. Thanks to Trump and his devastating policies, Americans are severely underprepared for what promises to be a deadly hurricane season. Let’s be clear, Trump has gutted NOAA and FEMA, leaving us with less accurate forecasts and support to prepare for storms and rebuild afterwards. The devastation that is coming will be a direct result of the Trump administration’s shortsighted policies.”
