HOMECOMING: JD Vance to Tout Republican Rate Hike That Guts Manufacturing During Return to Ohio
tags
Washington, D.C. – Today, JD Vance returns to his home state of Ohio to tout Donald Trump’s Republican Rate Hike, which will spike energy bills and destroy manufacturing jobs. Vance’s event is the latest stop on his new tour to sell Trump’s historically unpopular bill, a tour he began by encouraging Americans to “take what I said and … go talk to your neighbors, go and talk to your friends about what this bill does for American citizens.”
Here are some highlights of what this bill will do for American citizens that Vance may forget to mention to his friends and neighbors:
Trump and Vance’s bill will raise energy costs and eliminate manufacturing jobs…
- FACT: The Trump-Vance Republican Rate Hike could increase the average American family’s utility bill by an average of $170 within a decade, and by up to $190 in Ohio.
- FACT: Utility companies have already broken records for rate hikes this year. Compared to this time last year, electric rate increases have doubled, and power bills are already up by an average of 9% since Trump and Vance took office.
- FACT: A nonpartisan analysis found that the Trump-Vance Republican Rate Hike will eliminate 700,000 jobs over the next 10 years, including 34,000 jobs in Ohio.
…forcing working families to pay the price for billionaires’ tax breaks…
- FACT: Washington Post: “GOP bill could worsen inflation and lead to financial crisis, economists warn”
- FACT: Working families will lose $1,300 a year by 2033 while the top .1% will see their incomes boosted by $83,095.
…and gutting energy production as demand soars, hiking costs, and handing a win to China.
- FACT: Fortune: “Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill will accelerate an American energy crisis—and it could cost the U.S. the AI race”
- FACT: AI data centers could cause a 70% increase in electric bills by 2029 due to increased demand.
- FACT: Demand for energy is soaring, but Trump and Vance are weakening grid reliability and gutting production by slashing 340 GW of energy production from the grid, including nearly 14 GW in Ohio by 2035.
- FACT: Clean energy is the least expensive and quickest power generation source to add to the grid, while the cost to build gas power plants has tripled.
- FACT: Trump and Vance are decimating the wind and solar industries, which made up 94% of new electric-generating capacity in 2024, along with battery storage.
- FACT: Washington Post: “How the Trump tax bill could help China win at A.I.”
No wonder virtually every major union denounced the bill as a job killer of historic proportions…
- AFL-CIO: “Every senator who voted for this budget bill chose to make working families poorer, sicker and less safe. Senators had a chance to correct the damage of the House version of the budget, but they’ve doubled down to make this job-killer even worse.”
- NABTU: “The revised Senate draft released late last night is a massive insult to the working men and women of North America’s Building Trades Unions and all construction workers. This is not what they voted for. If enacted, this stands to be the biggest job-killing bill in the history of this country.”
- LIUNA: “Today, the U.S. Senate voted to kill American jobs in order to line the pockets of the megawealthy. This bill eradicates thousands of good-paying LIUNA jobs — jobs that were promised, planned, and already underway.”
- IBEW: “Make no mistake, this bill will cost hundreds of thousands of good-paying construction jobs, billions of work hours, and hundreds of billions in lost wages and economic benefits to America’s middle class. IBEW members and every average American will pay the price as congressional Republicans abandon critical investments in American infrastructure and the energy independence they have been tripping over themselves to take credit for the last few years. That so many of these investments are in the rural areas and small towns left behind for generations is even more troubling.”
