As Vance Heads to Wisconsin, New Report Finds Wisconsinites Are Paying More for Utilities, Groceries, Gas, and Healthcare Thanks to Trump and Vance

Milwaukee, WI – JD Vance’s visit to Milwaukee today to discuss the Trump administration’s efforts to “combat fraud” comes on the heels of a recent report by Climate Power and the Center for American Progress Action Fund that highlights how unaffordable life has become for Wisconsinites. The report found that Trump’s policies have raised costs for Wisconsin families by $2,035 per household through the first half of 2026

For families that buy healthcare coverage through the ACA marketplace, that total climbs to $3,548. By the end of 2026, those totals could grow to $3,103 and $6,128, respectively. This past weekend marked the one-year anniversary of the signing of the Republican budget bill, which slashed clean energy investments and jobs.

Gas prices have also skyrocketed. Trump’s war of choice in Iran and efforts to block clean energy raised gasoline and utility costs in Wisconsin by a total of $461. By the end of 2026, those additional fuel costs could grow to $920 if costs don’t come back down to normal. Rep. Derrick Van Orden voted 11 times, and Rep. Tom Tiffany voted 12 times in favor of Trump’s war and for other policies that raised costs for Wisconsin families on gasoline, electricity, and tariff-affected goods, as well as ACA marketplace coverage.

And while Trump promised to cut electricity bills in half, new analysis from Energy Innovation shows that his policies skyrocket utility costs—and will continue to for years to come. Individual households will pay $460 more annually for their energy costs by 2035, and up to $490 more per household by 2040.

Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee released the following statement: “Rather than taking action to lower the cost of living for Wisconsinites, Trump and Republicans like Reps. Van Orden and Tiffany are actively making the problem worse. One year ago, Trump signed one of the worst ‘own goal’ policies ever into law: the Republican budget bill. Since then, Wisconsinites have been paying the price: literally. Trump and Reps. Van Orden and Tiffany deliberately killed clean energy jobs and investments, which means even higher utility bills, on top of votes that raised costs on everything from gas to groceries to health care.”
