Biggs and Schweikert Had Their Chance to Lower Bills for Arizona Families. They Blew It.

PHOENIX — Tonight, Andy Biggs and David Schweikert stood on a debate stage and talked about the cost of living. But what they didn’t talk about says far more about these GOP candidates for governor.

In August 2022, both voted against the Inflation Reduction Act — the largest clean energy investment in American history. The law would have expanded solar and wind, cut electricity costs, and locked in more than 18,000 clean energy jobs and nearly $12 billion in investments across Arizona. But in 2025, Biggs and Schwiekert voted for the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, gutting what remained.

This summer, Arizona families are projected to pay $1,060 on electricity between June and September — the highest of any state in the country, up nearly 14 percent from last year. Arizona is now one of the 10 states most impacted by Trump’s war on clean energy: seven projects canceled or delayed, more than 8,900 jobs lost, and more than $3.6 billion in investment gone.

Because of the OBBBA, Arizonans’ annual energy bills are expected to climb another $140 by 2030.

“An hour onstage doesn’t erase years of bad votes for Trump and Big Oil,” said Diali Avila, Arizona State Director for Climate Power. “Biggs and Schweikert have had plenty of chances to fight for Arizona families. They chose Trump instead.”

The Republican primary is July 21, 2026.
