Climate Power Releases New Ads in Iowa as Part of “The Bills Are Too Damn High” Campaign

Des Moines, IA — Today, The Bills Are Too Damn High, a project of Climate Power, is launching new ads as part of a mid six-figure digital and streaming buy urging Reps. Miller-Meeks, Nunn, and Hinson to stop voting for price increases, which have cost Iowa families about $2,000-$3,500 more just in the first half of this year. 

The ads, titled “Right Now,” began running today in IA-01 and IA-03 on platforms like Connected TV, YouTube, and Meta and will run for three weeks. They are accompanied by digital out-of-home ad placements aimed at reaching Iowans as they encounter the pains of rising costs in their day-to-day routines. Digital ads like this will be seen on screens in grocery and convenience stores, and in local publications.

“Here’s what’s happening right now. The average Iowa family is spending another $2-3 thousand more just to get by, while the average billionaire got a $50,000 tax cut” says the narrator in the ad. “Why? Because that’s what Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted for. Tariffs crushing Iowa’s economy. A reckless war. Attacks on Iowa’s wind industry. All of it made our costs go up, while the billionaires got the big tax cut. Tell Miller-Meeks she has it backwards: we need lower prices and the billionaires can pay their fair share.”

Reps. Miller-Meeks, Nunn, and Hinson have all voted over ten times for Trump’s cost-raising agenda, forcing the average Iowa household to pay about $2,000 more for gas, electricity, and tariff-affected goods. For those who are insured through the ACA, these Representatives’ agenda has cost about $3,500. If things don’t get better, they could cost the average family more than $3,000 extra by the end of the year, and more than $6,000 for those insured through the ACA. 

The bottom line: Trump promised to lower energy costs, but his affordability crisis isn’t letting up. Rather than rein Trump in and fight for Iowans, Reps. Miller-Meeks, Nunn, and Hinson are rubber-stamping his agenda.
