Climate Power Statement on Ambler Road Decision

Unlike Trump, Biden Protects Our Public Lands and Communities from Polluters

Washington, D.C. – In response to the Biden-Harris administration’s decision to choose “no action” on a proposed 211-mile road that would cross 11 rivers and thousands of streams as it tears through pristine public lands in Alaska, Climate Power deputy executive director Claire Moser issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision to say no to polluters underscores why President Biden is the greatest climate president in American history. Blocking the construction of hundreds of miles of new roads will protect Indigenous communities and their way of life, along with some of our nation’s and Alaska’s most treasured public lands.

“As president, Donald Trump approved this same road and held a fire sale on our public lands, letting the fossil fuel industry and other polluters decimate our public lands without consequence. He will put Big Oil in charge once again if re-elected, including handing over the Arctic Refuge and millions of acres of unspoiled land in Alaska to greedy oil and gas executives. Trump and his Big Oil backers are a singular threat to our climate, clean air and water, and healthy communities.”
