Democrats Win Back House and Senate as Voters Reject Republicans’ Failed Energy Agenda

Trump’s energy agenda was an economic disaster for families and a political disaster for Republicans
Washington, DC – Democrats won back the House and the Senate as voters showed up to hold Trump and Republicans responsible for their failed agenda that spiked energy bills and cost families thousands of extra dollars this year.
In 2024, Trump and Republicans promised an affordability agenda built on bringing down energy costs. Instead, they gutted cheap, reliable clean energy and doubled down on oil and gas while paving the way for the explosion of dirty data centers benefiting their wealthy donors — causing energy costs to soar. Republicans’ number one campaign promise became their number one failure, and Democrats seized the issue to win.
In races across the country, Democrats listened to voters’ top concerns and made energy costs central to their campaigns. They ran on delivering more affordable clean energy and making corporations pay their fair share — helping them win back Congress.
Lori Lodes, President of Climate Power, released the following statement:
“Two years ago, Trump and Republicans promised to slash energy costs and bring down the price of everything else. Instead, families paid more for gas, groceries and utilities while Republican donors’ profits skyrocketed. Their number one campaign promise became their number one failure. Tonight, voters held them accountable.
“Democrats went on offense with a clear answer: lower bills, cleaner and cheaper power. They put gas prices and utility bills at the center of their campaigns, challenged the corporate interests driving up costs, and demanded guardrails for energy-guzzling data centers. Americans rejected Trump’s corrupt policies that have jacked up the price of everything, especially energy — and elected Democrats to fight for lower bills and to hold his administration accountable.
“Energy affordability isn’t going anywhere. Now, it’s time for Democrats to get to work on what voters want: lower bills, reliable power, cleaner air, and corporate accountability. If Republicans stay wedded to Trump and his disastrous energy policies while Democrats push forward on the agenda they campaigned on, 2028 will look just like tonight.”
