Diesel Prices Reach Record-Highs, Hurting Ohio Farmers, While Husted Supports Trump’s Iran War

Columbus, OH – This week, diesel prices in Ohio reached a multiyear high of $5.92 as Trump’s war of choice in Iran continues into its 9th week. Gas prices in Ohio are up by more than $2 since the war began, making it harder for Ohioans to fill up their tanks. Fertilizer prices have also increased dramatically, with the average price nationally increasing by up to 50%.
A recent survey found that about 70% of farmers nationwide can’t afford all the fertilizer they need, forcing many to make difficult choices of planting different crops or facing lower yields. Another report found that the cost of urea fertilizer—which has shot up from $455 to $700 per ton since the war began—could remain 13% higher than its pre-war price into at least 2028, even if the Strait of Hormuz reopened soon.
This comes after a challenging year for Ohio farmers. Last year, Trump’s tariffs resulted in a $76 million loss for Ohio farmers in the first eight months of 2025 alone. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies rose by 46% nationwide in 2025, reaching 315 filings.
Sen. Husted has rubber-stamped Trump’s agenda at every turn, voting in support of Trump’s extremely unpopular war, which has reached disapproval levels similar to the Iraq and Vietnam wars. More than 70% believe Trump is to blame for exorbitant gas prices and only 37% of American adults approve of Trump’s job performance.
Ohio farmers are suffering because of Trump’s war in Iran. Why won’t Sen. Husted stand up to Trump and stand up for his constituents?
