EPA ADMINISTRATOR REGAN’S VISIT TO MICHIGAN WILL SPOTLIGHT PROGRESS MADE TO REPLACE LEAD PIPES

Grand Rapids, M.I.  — EPA Administrator Michael Regan’s visit to Michigan this week will spotlight President Biden’s clean energy plan and the administration’s efforts to replace lead pipes with durable infrastructure. Thanks to President Biden’s clean energy plan, Michigan has received $213 million to replace Michigan’s lead pipes and update the state’s water infrastructure. 

Additionally, the Biden administration’s affordable clean energy plan has turbocharged Michigan’s clean energy economy. Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, 14 clean energy projects have been announced or furthered, totaling $20.23 billion in investments. These projects have announced over 13,700 clean energy jobs in the state. 

Here are some examples of clean energy advancements made thanks to President Biden’s Clean Energy Plan: 

• This year, Ford announced it would invest $3.5 billion in an LFP battery plant in Marshall, Michigan. The BlueOval Battery Park, the first automaker-backed plant of its kind in the U.S., will employ 2,500 workers. This announcement came after Virginia’s governor rejected the Ford/CATL partnership. 
• In October 2022, Our Next Energy (ONE) announced it would invest $1.6 billion to establish a battery cell manufacturing plant in Van Buren Township, Michigan. The facility is expected to create 2,112 new jobs. 
• In October 2022, Gotion received tax incentives to build a proposed $2.4 million battery plant in Michigan. The facility will create 2,350 jobs. 

Thanks to President Biden’s clean energy plan, Michigan is receiving historic investments to drive the clean energy economy, create good-paying jobs, and invest in bold climate resiliency programs and cost-saving efficiency projects. Last year, the Department of Energy announced that Michigan would be receiving over $211 million in home energy rebate funding to lower energy costs and make homes more energy efficient.
