FACT SHEET: HOW THE AMERICAN JOBS PLAN WILL CREATE MILLIONS OF GOOD-PAYING, UNION JOBS IN CLEAN ENERGY AND MUCH MORE

After decades of neglect, we must invest in modernizing our infrastructure and building a clean energy future. The American Jobs Plan is about creating millions of new good-paying, union jobs and building a clean energy future through big, bold investments in our infrastructure.

That means EV charging stations from coast to coast, making historic investments in clean energy to reduce carbon pollution, updating our outdated electricity grid to run on clean energy and be more resilient to climate change, investing in frontline communities that have been polluted by decades of environmental injustice, rebuilding crumbling water systems in danger of collapse and investing in high-speed rail, broadband, worker training, and the care economy. We need 21st century infrastructure for a 21st century America.

If it helps build a stronger, better, and more prosperous America, it’s infrastructure. 

Let’s get to work creating the jobs of today and building the country we need to be competitive tomorrow. That’s what the American Jobs Plan is all about.

New Jobs and Opportunities in Every Community in America

The American jobs Plan will help create millions of good-paying, union jobs. Clean energy and infrastructure jobs aren’t dependent on where you live. These won’t be red state jobs or blue state jobs. They will be American jobs in big cities, small towns, and the rural communities in between. New opportunities are everywhere. 

• Repairing American roads and bridges: The American Jobs Plan will put people to work fixing bridges in need of repair and improving road safety for all users while making roadways more efficient and reducing emissions from cars sitting in traffic. Roads will also be built to make sure cars and trucks and can share the road with pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation.
• Reenergizing America’s power infrastructure: The American Jobs Plan will employ line workers and other technicians to build a more resilient electric transmission system to improve the availability of clean, renewable electricity. We cannot afford more disasters like the collapse of the electrical grid that killed more than 200 people in Texas and left millions without power and water.
• Building the capacity to generate clean electricity: The American Jobs Plan will employ solar installers, wind turbine technicians, and many many other workers to build the capacity to deliver clean, renewable electricity.
• Winning the Electric Vehicle (EV) market: The American Jobs Plan will put electricians and other contractors to work building a national network of 500,000 EV chargers by 2030. It will also help automakers develop domestic supply chains to create manufacturing jobs right here at home building electric vehicles to compete with the foreign companies currently dominating this market.
• Making our infrastructure more resilient against the ravages of climate change: The American Jobs Plan will create construction jobs fortifying our existing critical infrastructure such as electrical equipment and water systems against the impacts of extreme weather and climate-related disasters like wildfires, hurricanes, and flooding. Under the American Jobs Plan, every dollar spent on infrastructure will be spent making it more resilient against climate change.
• Modernizing public transit: The American Jobs Plan will put track workers, signal technicians, and bus mechanics to work addressing a backlog of repair projects that can help reduce traffic congestion and reduce transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions.
• Improving passenger and freight rail service: The American Jobs Plan will put people to work installing and repairing tracks, signals, and rail cars to address Amtrak’s repair backlog and improve inter-city rail transportation. Exciting new routes will be added in every region in America.
• Building and retrofitting energy efficient buildings: The American Jobs Plan will employ people across the construction trades to build, preserve, and retrofit more than two million homes and commercial buildings. The plan will also invest in modernizing public schools, investing in community college infrastructure, and upgrading VA hospitals and federal buildings.
• Investing in R&D and inventing the technologies of the future: The American Jobs Plan will invest in employing scientists, researchers, and engineers to advance U.S. leadership in the critical technologies that will be needed to build a clean energy economy.
• Retooling and revitalizing the American manufacturing sector: The American Jobs plan will invest in building domestic industrial capacity to support the production of critical goods and will jumpstart domestic clean energy manufacturing through the power of federal purchasing.
• Restoring our public lands: The American Jobs Plan will mobilize the next generation of conservation and resilience workers through a new Civilian Climate Corps to work on protecting our public lands and waters.
• Improving our ports, waterways, and airports: The American Jobs Plan will invest in large construction projects to make the flow of goods in and out of our ports more efficient while reducing air pollution. Improvements to airports will mean construction and renovation of terminals and taxiways for more efficient passenger travel with less wasted fuel.
• Replacing lead pipes and modernizing water systems: The American Jobs Plan will employ plumbers, excavators, and other tradespeople to replace 100 percent of the nation’s lead pipes and service lines and to modernize drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems across America.
• Cleaning up abandoned wells and mines: The American Jobs Plan will employ oilfield and mining workers to plug orphan oil and gas wells and clean up abandoned mines in order to put a stop to uncontrolled methane emissions and protect communities from toxic chemicals.

New Jobs and Opportunities for Workers of All Skill Levels

The American Jobs Plan won’t leave certain workers or certain communities behind. It’s about bringing clean energy and modern infrastructure – and the millions of jobs that go with them – to every community in America.

• 19 million jobs by 2030. According to a report by Moody’s Analytics, the  American Jobs Plan would dig us out of the jobs crisis caused by the pandemic recession by early 2023. If Congress does its job and passes the American Jobs Plan, it will help create 19 million jobs by 2030. 
• Jobs at every skill level: According to the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, three quarters of the jobs created by the Biden-Harris administration’s infrastructure plan would go to workers with either a high school diploma or less or to workers with a high school diploma and some skills training.

There is no time to waste. America can’t wait. Congress must get to work and immediately pass big, bold investments in clean energy and infrastructure.
