Here We Go Again: Michigan Gas Prices Spiking As Trump Pushes Costly War Deadline and GOP Congressmen Nowhere to Be Found
tags
Lansing, MI – While the world waits to see Trump’s self-imposed deadline tonight on whatever he will do next, Michigan Congressmen on “Spring Break” are doing nothing to protect struggling consumers. Gas prices in Michigan have increased 38% since the beginning of the war on Iran, going from $2.98 per gallon to more than $4 a gallon. These spikes are hitting Michigan’s agriculture industry and farmers especially hard with skyrocketing costs for diesel and fears about fertilizer availability.
Trump’s war has caused chaos for global commerce, with no end in sight. Michigan Republicans like John James, Tom Barrett, and Bill Huizenga all voted with Trump to support his war and cut domestic energy production. In fact, instead of standing up against Trump or even coming back home to talk directly with their constituents, they appear to want to be anywhere but here. John James was reportedly in the Caribbean while claiming to be at the Detroit Tigers home opener, Bill Huizenga confirmed he ran off to Scotland, and Tom Barrett refuses to stand before his voters in public events.
Climate Power Michigan Director Tom Lenard issued the following statement:
“Michiganders are holding their breath about what’s next in Trump’s costly war and being forced to choose between paying for their health care, keeping the lights on, and filling their tank. Instead of talking to people about what they’re going through, GOP Congressmen like Bill Huizenga, John James, and Tom Barrett apparently have better places to be. Scotland, the Caribbean, and hiding from constituents – oh my.”
Climate Power has launched a five-figure digital billboard ad campaign reminding people that they can thank their Republican representative and Donald Trump for $4 per gallon gas prices. The billboards are the latest installment in a multi-million dollar campaign to educate Americans about why their costs are rising.
The five-figure billboard ad campaign includes:
- 150 screens across five districts that started April 3 and running through this week: MI-04 (67 boards), MI-07 (40 boards), NC-11 (36 Boards), WI-03 (12 Boards), AZ-06 (3 Boards)
Below is a sample of the ads:

Climate Power is also offering experts for interviews on the impact of skyrocketing energy costs.
