House GOP Budget Plan Will Destroy Jobs, Increase Costs, Leave Our Grid Vulnerable

Washington, D.C. — The new House GOP budget resolution will gut the clean energy investments that have spurred massive job growth across the country, despite the majority of these new investments and jobs benefiting Republican districts. Gutting clean energy investments will put those jobs at risk, increase costs, and remove necessary, reliable energy from the already overstretched grid.
Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“House Republicans know firsthand the success clean energy investments have had in bringing jobs and economic opportunity to the communities they represent. Private sector investments alone have already spurred more than 400,000 jobs from Georgia to Arizona, from North Carolina to Michigan. These good-paying jobs will be put in jeopardy if Republicans take clean energy out of the mix.
“We need reliable, affordable energy to strengthen the grid as quickly as possible – and renewables are the fastest, cheapest option where we can expand. It’s simple supply and demand: this resolution will undermine America’s energy supply and force prices through the roof for everybody.”
- Clean energy investments have spurred the creation of more than 400,000 jobs, the majority benefiting Republican districts.
- Just today, the CEO of Ford Motors stated that repealing investments in clean energy will put jobs at risk.
- By 2028, U.S. data-center power demand could nearly triple and consume as much as 12% of the country’s electricity – meaning we need more energy, now.
