ICYMI: Austin Community College District and Climate Power host Sustainability Job Fair

AUSTIN, Texas – Yesterday, Austin Community College Highland held a Sustainability Job Fair to connect students and community members with jobs in the growing sustainability sector throughout Central Texas. The College’s Career Services team partnered with Climate Power to highlight a range of clean energy businesses, workforce development programs, and organizations at the local and national levels.

Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea, City Council Member Ryan Alter, and ACC Spokesperson Gary Strong kicked off the event to remark on the importance of sustainable jobs, training programs, and investments for Texas’ shifting energy landscape.

“Our state is a leader in the clean energy transition,” said Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea. “Since 2022, Texas has seen over 26,000 clean energy jobs created and over $17 billion in investments. We have all the tools we need to address climate change. We just need the will, knowledge, and training. That’s what this event is all about.”

“We have a huge pool of talent here,” said City Council Member Ryan Alter. “For a city as growing and diverse as Austin, it’s now more important than ever to make sure hardworking people have access to local opportunities within the sustainability sector.”

“It’s our duty to foster connections between businesses, students, community members, and workforce programs,” said ACC Spokesperson Gary Strong. “The Sustainability Job Fair is part of a larger movement making sure Texans are equipped with the skills they need for high-demand clean energy jobs. We’re proud to bring attention to local opportunities while ensuring that students are set up for success.”
