ICYMI: High Gas Prices are a Political Liability

The Washington Post reported that gas prices are becoming a threat to GOP lawmakers like Rep. Michael Lawler (NY-17)

Washington, DC – As average gas prices remain above $4 per gallon, high costs at the pump are becoming a political liability for congressional Republicans like Rep. Michael Lawler (NY-17). Rep. Lawler has continued to support Trump’s war of choice in Iran, which has driven up gas prices, costing Americans $24 billion more at the pump.

Trump’s war is worsening the Republican-created energy affordability crisis. Trump promised to cut energy costs in half in his first year in office, but instead, household utility bills spiked as much as 13% last year. Trump and congressional Republicans are taking homegrown, cheap, clean energy off the grid at a time when demand is higher than ever.

REMINDER: Despite having solar panels on his own house, Rep. Lawler voted to take a sledgehammer to the clean energy industry — leaving Americans more dependent on volatile foreign oil and price shocks.

Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee issued the following statement: “GOP members of Congress like Mike Lawler have rubber-stamped Trump’s disastrous clean energy cuts and his unpopular war in Iran, and the American people are going to send them the same resounding message that Republicans got in New Jersey and Virginia last November. While families make hard choices between filling up their tanks or putting food on the table, Lawler has done nothing but raise costs for his constituents to please Trump and turn a profit for a bunch of oil company billionaires.”
