ICYMI: Leading Trump Public Health Expert Doesn’t Know If Pollution Is Bad For Us

Washington, D.C.  — When asked if the EPA’s plan to repeal its longstanding pollution policy is dangerous to our public health, Trump’s Food and Drug Administration head, Dr. Marty Makary, told CNBC that he didn’t know enough about the issue. The policy, under the Clean Air Act, is the foundation for protections against the climate-warming pollution that fuels asthma, extreme heat, and dangerous storms. This move to repeal it will undermine decades of settled science and efforts to protect Americans from dangerous pollution.

Climate Power Senior Advisor for Accountability Campaigns Alex Witt issued the following statement: “It’s completely absurd that one of Trump’s leading public health experts ‘doesn’t know enough’ about the dangers of pollution on our health. Trump is saying that the pollution that makes our air dirtier, our kids sicker, and life-threatening extreme weather more frequent is not actually that bad for us. The science here is extremely clear: Trump is just ignoring it, so that corporate polluters can get richer while our families pay the price.”
