ICYMI: Speaker Johnson Exposes Congressional Republicans as Liars on Clean Energy Investments

Carson City, NV— On Wednesday, in remarks to the America First Policy Institute, Speaker Mike Johnson promised to repeal the clean energy plan—putting more than 330,000 clean energy jobs on the chopping block and increasing energy costs for working families—if Republicans win the presidency and take full control of Congress this November. Last month, 18 vulnerable House Republicans, including Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei, sent a public letter to Speaker Johnson requesting to spare the tax credits provided through the clean energy plan because the jobs created by it are popular in their districts—even though each of them previously voted to repeal those investments. Speaker Johnson’s remarks made it clear that this letter was just a stunt to fool voters. 

“Congressional Republicans like Rep. Mark Amodei can’t have it both ways; they can’t take credit for the new clean energy jobs in their districts while continuously voting to repeal the Biden-Harris administration’s clean energy plan. Make no mistake, Rep. Mark Amodei’s district saw the creation of 13,960 clean energy jobs and over $10 billion in investments thanks to the clean energy plan,” said Monica Perez, States Managing Director of Climate Power. “Speaker Mike Johnson reminded Nevada voters that if Donald Trump wins in November, his administration will quickly move to destroy thousands of jobs in Rep. Mark Amodei’s district and more than 20,000 jobs across the state of Nevada, gut clean energy investments and raise costs on working families.”

House Republicans have voted to repeal the clean energy plan 51 times, despite the fact that a majority of clean energy jobs have been created in their districts. Since the passage of the clean energy plan, GOP-held districts have seen over 190,000 new jobs and over $286 billion in investment.
