In Last Night’s Debate in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District, Rep. Scott Perry’s Hypocrisy On Climate Went Unchecked

HARRISBURG, PA – Last night, Congressman Scott Perry and Janelle Stelson met for their one and only debate in Harrisburg. Over the course of the hour-long debate, Perry repeatedly tried to hide from his extreme voting record and made several misleading claims about the administration’s energy and extreme weather policies.
CLAIM: Perry said, “we must take care of our own people” in regard to support for storm victims in Florida and North Carolina, saying “there’s no money for it because we sent it overseas.”
- FACT: FEMA has sufficient funding to both support the response to Hurricane Milton and continue to support the response to Hurricane Helene—including funding to support first responders and provide immediate assistance to disaster survivors.
- FACT: The day before Hurricane Helene hit land, Congressman Scott Perry voted against extending FEMA funding.
- FACT: As Chairman of the House committee responsible for overseeing the federal response to natural disasters, Perry stated “We won’t focus on climate change – I guarantee you, we will not be focusing on climate change.”
CLAIM: “The current administration…is against clean energy production like Three Mile Island and like across Pennsylvania,” said Perry.
- FACT: Scott Perry voted against the Biden-Harris Administration’s clean energy plan that has created more than 330,000 jobs in the past two years, tripling clean energy production and helping Americans save $38 billion on electricity bills.
- FACT: More than 2,881 new clean energy jobs and $1.09 billion in private sector investment have been announced in Pennsylvania since the passage of the Biden-Harris Administration’s clean energy plan. Pennsylvania’s 10th district alone has seen two new clean energy projects, which are generating $14.2 million in investment and supporting hundreds of jobs.
- FACT: Constellation Energy Corp announced their new investment in Three Mile Island will take advantage of tax credits from the clean energy plan, generate $1.6 billion in investment, and create an estimated 3,400 jobs.
The choice before voters could not be more stark: Will we continue to combat the climate crisis and invest in clean energy, turbocharging American manufacturing while giving families more affordable and reliable energy choices? Or will we re-elect a climate (and election) denier, who rejects climate science in the face of catastrophe, will stifle America’s booming clean energy economy, and allow Big Oil to pollute and profiteer without constraint or competition?
