Kari Lake’s Solution to Extreme Heat in Arizona: Gut Climate Action
tags
PHOENIX—On the first day of early voting in Arizona, Representative Ruben Gallego and Kari Lake met face-to-face in a live, televised debate. With record heat in Arizona the last two summers and catastrophic hurricanes in the southeast, the moderators asked the candidates about extreme weather and clean energy. Their answers showed how far apart the candidates are in their approach to addressing climate change.
Just like Donald Trump, Kari Lake wants to gut climate action, putting thousands of jobs in Arizona at risk, and double down on dirty energy sources that are further exacerbating climate change. In contrast, Representative Gallego acknowledged the climate crisis and knows “a resilient grid” will help Arizonans combat the climate crisis. While Kari Lake takes Big Oil’s money, Gallego has a record of holding the industry accountable by voting to crack down on the industry for gouging Americans at the pump while pledging to not accept any oil and gas campaign contributions.
“Arizonans across the state are feeling the impacts of extreme heat in October–the costs of the climate crisis are here today,” said Diali Avila, Climate Power’s Arizona State Desk. “Ruben Gallego is the candidate in the race working for families and will fight against Big Oil to address the climate crisis and ensure we keep investing in a clean energy future that lowers costs and creates jobs here in Arizona.”
The clean energy plan has already created more than 18,000 jobs in Arizona, and billions in investments —investments that will be at risk if GOP candidates like Kari Lake get elected.
The choice before voters is clear: Will we continue to combat the climate crisis and invest in clean energy, turbocharging American manufacturing while giving families more affordable and reliable energy choices? Or will we reject climate science in the face of catastrophe, stifle America’s booming clean energy economy, and allow Big Oil to pollute and profiteer without constraint or competition?
