LAST NIGHT: A Bold Vision for America’s Clean Energy Future

Washington, D.C. — On night two of the Democratic National Convention, leaders from across the country highlighted Vice President Harris’ record of holding Big Oil accountable and bold vision for America’s clean energy future. Kamala Harris has spent her career fighting for clean air and water and taking on corporate polluters — including securing over $50 million for taxpayers in settlements from Big Oil. Harris also cast the tie-breaking vote to triple our clean energy production and save Americans $38 billion on their electricity bills.
“While Trump wants to raise prices on Americans to pad his Big Oil donors’ bottom line, Kamala Harris is fighting for you,” said Lori Lodes, Executive Director of Climate Power. “Kamala Harris is working to lower costs, invest in clean energy jobs, protect our air and water, and hold Big Oil accountable for polluting our communities. Donald Trump’s Project 2025 agenda would only benefit his oil and gas donors – while raising prices, putting over 330,000 jobs at risk, and letting Big Oil profiteer and pollute.”
What Democratic National Convention speakers had to say about Vice President Harris’ climate record and vision for the future:
- President Barack Obama: “For them, freedom means that the powerful can do pretty much what they please. Whether it’s fire workers trying to organize a union, or put poison in our rivers, or avoid paying taxes like everybody else has to do. Well, we have a broader idea of freedom. We believe in the freedom to provide for your family if you’re willing to work hard, the freedom to breathe clean air and clean water, and send your kids to school without worrying if they’ll come home… America can be, and must be, a force for good… Protecting the planet from climate change, defending freedom, brokering peace. That’s what Kamala Harris believes, and so do most Americans.”
- Senator Chuck Schumer: “Do we want a Republican Senate that cuts taxes for the rich, that rigs the game for Big Oil and big pharma? The choice is ours.” Before speaking at the DNC, Senator Schumer also told reporters, “We would go back to the environment” and pass more federal climate legislation if Democrats regain a governing trifecta this November.
- DNC Committee Co-Chair Mitch Landrieu: “With these projects, we’re ushering in a brighter future. A future in which everyone has clean air to breathe, everyone has clean water to drink; a future where everyone has the opportunity to build generational wealth. A future in which the most vulnerable communities aren’t forced to bear the brunt of progress. And we have made historic progress toward that vision.”
- Senator Bernie Sanders: “And, let us be very clear, this is not a radical agenda. But let me tell you what a radical agenda is. And that is Trump’s Project 2025. At a time of massive inequality in wealth, giving more tax breaks to billionaires is radical. Putting forth budgets that cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid is radical. Letting polluters destroy our planet is radical. And, my friends, we won’t let that happen.”
- Governor JB Pritzker: “Illinois invested in clean energy and the jobs it brings. Donald claimed that windmills in the ocean made the whales a little batty.”
- County Executive Angela Alsobrooks: “Now, Donald Trump says if Kamala Harris is elected, tough guys will treat her like a play toy. Do you know who else thought that? The drug cartels she busted. The Big Oil companies she made pay for polluting.”
- Mesa Mayor John Giles: “Trump made a lot of lofty promises: unlimited economic growth, American manufacturing reborn, a secure border. It turns out that Donald Trump was all talk. He wanted our votes but couldn’t deliver a thing. But these days, my city of Mesa, Arizona, is on the move. I’m going to ribbon cuttings every single week, all because Joe Biden and Kamala Harris reached across the aisle, and they delivered for my conservative community and countless more across the country.”
