Losing the AI Race: Trump’s War on Clean Energy Is a Boon to Beijing

Washington, D.C. — As President Trump prepares to deliver the keynote address today on “winning the AI race” at a summit hosted by the All-In Podcast and Hill & Valley Forum, and utility rates continue to skyrocket nationwide, Climate Power senior advisor for accountability campaigns Alex Witt released the following statement:
“Nobody has done more to sabotage the United States’ bid for AI supremacy than Donald Trump, who has pulled the plug on the American clean energy boom in the face of surging power demand.
“Trump’s signature law and executive orders have stopped American wind, solar, and battery projects dead in their tracks, saddling working families with painful Republican rate hikes while ceding the future to Beijing. Just yesterday, America’s largest power grid saw prices rise to record levels because energy supply under Trump is not keeping up with demand from AI and data centers. Leveraging reliable, affordable, homegrown energy sources to rapidly increase our power capacity will be essential to winning this race; that’s why China has made clean energy production a centerpiece of its AI strategy.
“Simply put, America can’t win the AI race without winning the energy race, and we can’t win the energy race by gutting critical power sources. Everyone seems to understand this except Donald Trump and his rubber-stamp Republicans in Congress.”
