Trump has gutted federal disaster response and kicked disaster recovery back to the states, leaving communities vulnerable
The ads will run in Michigan and North Carolina on local news sites and Meta, with North Carolina digital billboards running in NC-11 and NC-03
Washington, DC – Following Donald Trump’s FEMA Review Council recommendations to overhaul the agency and push the costs of recovery onto state and local communities, Climate Power is holding him accountable with a six-figure ad buy in Michigan and North Carolina. Federal disaster aid for both North Carolina and Michigan was denied and delayed in the first year of Trump’s second term, making it more expensive for communities to rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Helene and major flooding and ice storms in Michigan.
Climate Power Climate Urgency Senior Advisor Mia Logan released the following statement: “The Trump administration has systematically slashed funding for disaster response, making Americans less safe and recovery more expensive. Now, his FEMA Review Council, which includes Trump cheerleader Michael Whatley, is making things even worse. With these ads, we’re going to hold Trump accountable for pushing the cost to rebuild on states who can’t afford it, leaving American taxpayers to foot the bill.”

The six-figure ad campaign will include:
- Display ads
- Programmatic display ads
- Ads on local news sites (Detroit Free Press, Lansing State Journal, Grand Rapids Press, Flint Journal, Ann Arbor News, Detroit News, News & Observer, Charlotte Observer, Greensboro News & Record, Winston-Salem Journal, WRAL, Asheville Citizen-Times)
- Meta ads
- Digital billboards in NC-11 and NC-03
