NEW REPORT: 382 Energy Projects Taken Off the Grid as Electricity Prices Spike by 18% On Trump’s Watch

New report from Climate Power shows that Trump and Republicans in Congress have canceled enough clean energy projects to power over 17 million homes

Americans have spent almost $450 extra per household on already-skyrocketing energy costs thanks to Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran

Washington, DC – As Trump’s war of choice in Iran makes everything from gasoline to groceries more expensive, American families are already reeling from an energy affordability crisis that Trump and congressional Republicans created. Climate Power’s June Energy Crisis Snapshot shows that 382 clean energy projects have been canceled or stalled since Trump’s election. Trump and congressional Republicans’ attacks on clean energy have put 143,775 jobs on the chopping block, squeezing energy supply as demand from data centers skyrockets and electricity prices have spiked by 18% since Trump took office.

Last year, Republicans in Congress voted to take a sledgehammer to the clean energy industry – taking the fastest, cheapest energy sources offline. Just last week, Trump announced plans to invest $700 million in taxpayer dollars to prop up dirty, expensive coal, despite the fact that keeping coal plants open could cost Americans as much as $6 billion by the end of 2028. He has also spent another $2 billion to stop wind projects from being built.

Concerns about rising energy costs have increased by 10 percentage points since last year, tying housing as the second biggest affordability concern for Americans. But Trump has made no effort to lower costs, instead insisting that he doesn’t think about Americans’ financial situation.

“While Trump gives taxpayer bailouts to his ultra-wealthy fossil fuel donors, Americans are left to foot the bill with energy costs that have jumped by 18% on his watch,” said Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee. “Trump promised to slash electricity prices in half and keep us out of foreign wars, but instead, Americans are stuck choosing between keeping their lights on and filling up their tanks thanks to him and Republicans in Congress. Now, they are telling Americans that we’re in Trump’s Golden Age, and maybe it is for them and their billionaire donors, , but those of us in the real world will hold them accountable for sending costs through the roof.”
