New Speaker (Eventually?), Same Grand Oil Party

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republicans ousted Representative Kevin McCarthy as Speaker without a plan for his successor. Regardless of who they pick, we already know Speaker [INSERT NAME HERE] will be just as deep in the pocket of Big Oil as McCarthy was. 

It doesn’t really matter who the GOP chooses as the next Speaker since they’ll continue to cash Big Oil’s checks and vote in their interests. Last cycle, Republicans took a total of $39.4 million in campaign contributions, and they’ve voted like it, attempting to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act and its climate provisions at least 16 timesIn response to the news, Climate Power senior advisor for oil and gas Alex Witt released the following statement: 

“If there’s one thing we know about House Republicans, it’s that they’ll put Big Oil’s interests ahead of working families every time. Whoever House Republicans choose, the goal is the same: profits over people, campaign contributions over constituents.”
