NEW: Trump’s Reckless Energy Policies Are Raising Costs and Sending Jobs Overseas

Trump promised to cut electricity prices in half, but instead, energy costs have skyrocketed 11% and are rising at more than twice the rate of inflation

New report from Climate Power reveals that Trump’s war on clean energy has canceled or delayed 158,000 clean energy jobs

Washington, D.C. – Days before voters head to the polls in elections where energy costs have taken center stage, a new report from Climate Power details the impacts of Trump’s self-inflicted energy crisis. Climate Power’s Energy Crisis Snapshot shows over 158,000 jobs have already been lost or stalled in the clean energy sector, and gas and electric utilities have raised or sought to increase bills by at least $89.9 billion since Trump took office.

In a letter to the Trump administration calling out Trump for raising energy costs across the country, Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) highlighted the job losses and canceled projects detailed in Climate Power’s report. The findings come as voters increasingly cite energy affordability as a top concern, with 57% of registered voters saying that rising electricity prices are having an impact on their personal finances. Each month, as American families face higher utility bills, Trump and Republicans are making the affordability crisis even worse by canceling clean energy projects that would have brought more energy to the grid.

“Donald Trump promised to lower costs – but instead, he’s making Americans’ lives more expensive, plain and simple,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “He claims he wants energy independence and then launches a full-on assault on clean energy, blocking the very projects that would make power more affordable and increase supply. He imposed reckless tariffs that are driving up the costs of new energy projects or killing them outright, costing our state thousands of jobs. While Trump and his D.C. enablers put American families last, spineless New York Republicans are falling in line instead of fighting for the New Yorkers who put them in office in the first place. We may not agree on everything, but we should all agree on this: the cost of living is too high, and we need more energy, more jobs, and lower bills – now.”

“Trump is taking a sledgehammer to American clean energy manufacturing, and American families are paying the price. More clean energy means lower electricity bills – it’s supply and demand 101 – but Trump’s extreme agenda is taking cheap, reliable energy off the grid at the same time that demand is skyrocketing,” said Climate Power Executive Director Lori Lodes. “Americans face an affordability crisis that Trump and Republicans are making even worse with their war on clean energy. We need more energy, now, and by taking the cheapest energy we have off the table, Trump is directly raising Americans’ utility costs. Next week, voters in Virginia, New Jersey, and Georgia have an opportunity to bring their power to the polls and hold Trump and Republicans accountable for making life more expensive.”

With the 2025 elections days away, the report reveals that Virginia, New Jersey, and Georgia had some of the highest impacts from Trump’s war on clean energy:
