Oil and Gas Industry Set for Multi-Billion Dollar Windfall As Families Struggle Thanks to Trump

Washington, D.C. — Today, as Americans continue to grapple with skyrocketing gas prices caused by Donald Trump’s reckless war of choice in Iran, reports show that Big Oil is on track to see a multi-billion-dollar windfall. Some analyses estimate this windfall could exceed $60 billion. It is clear to Americans at the pump where this windfall is coming from — since February 28, Americans have collectively spent more than $ 7 billion extra on gasoline, and Trump has no plan to stop the bleeding.
REMINDER: Jet fuel prices have also spiked, making air travel more expensive, and earlier this week, the USPS announced it will implement a first-of-its-kind 8% fuel surcharge on packages. That means less money in people’s pockets, all so that Trump’s big oil and gas donors can reap tens of billions in profits at the expense of American families.
Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee issued the following statement: “If Trump doesn’t seem overly concerned with ending this war or getting gas prices down, maybe it’s because his oil executive donors are getting richer every day it goes on. Working families are being forced to cope with gas prices that are putting the squeeze on their wallets, and with diesel and jet fuel costs rising at historic levels, they are now going to face higher prices at the post office, the airport, and the grocery store. All the while, big oil and gas companies are reaping the benefits. It is apparent that Trump never stopped to even consider the repercussions of his recklessness, and his Republican enablers in Congress are nowhere to be found as their constituents suffer.”
