On Manufacturing Tours, PA Representatives Bresnahan and Mackenzie Celebrate Republican Tax Bill That’s Killing Jobs & Raising Energy Costs

PENNSYLVANIA — Last month, President Trump signed the Republican tax bill into law—a bill that is not only wildly unpopular with voters but will also cost Pennsylvania tens of thousands of energy manufacturing jobs in the next five years, and in turn drive up energy costs by hundreds of dollars. Now, Representatives Rob Bresnahan (PA-08) and Ryan Mackenzie (PA-07) are touting this bill as a win for Pennsylvania manufacturing in site visits to local manufacturers with House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain.

“Reps. Bresnahan and Mackenzie are celebrating a bill that’s taking a sledgehammer to our state’s clean energy industry—an industry that employs 279,521 people,” said Abby Cox, Pennsylvania State Director at Climate Power. “Clean energy investments have created thousands of good-paying jobs in Pennsylvania, and at a time when utility bills are skyrocketing nationwide, this bill will jack them up even higher. The Republican tax bill is costing us jobs and hurting local energy manufacturing while driving up energy prices. We can’t let Pennsylvania Republicans get away with pretending the Republican tax bill is anything other than what it really is: a tax cut for billionaires.”

Rising electricity prices have already outpaced inflation, and one of every six U.S. households is behind on their electric or gas bills. Thanks to this tax bill, American households will see their electricity prices increase by $130 per year by 2030 and $170 by 2035.

As extreme heat and increasing energy demand from data centers strains the grid, the Republican tax bill will destroy our home-grown clean energy supply, making the grid even less reliable and driving up costs for working families.

Trump’s EPA also plans to erase decades of widely accepted climate science and undo public health protections to benefit oil and gas executives. By voting for the Republican tax bill and standing behind President Trump, Reps. Bresnahan and Mackenzie have made it clear where their loyalties lie—and it’s not with the people of Pennsylvania.
