SHOT/CHASER: House Republicans Praised Clean Energy In Their Districts, Then Voted to Kill It

Washington, D.C. — This morning, House Republicans passed budget legislation that effectively repeals clean energy tax credits, putting more than 400,000 new manufacturing jobs at risk, hiking up energy bills, and creating an energy crisis. House Republicans who previously defended clean energy incentives, praising the investments and jobs created, sold out their constituents and voted to kill thousands of jobs in their districts.
SHOT: Rep. Mark Amodei’s NV-02 benefited greatly from clean energy tax credits, with $11.1 billion in clean energy investments creating nearly 15,000 new jobs. Amodei defended these investments, saying, “This electrification stuff is the future…I’m not going to sit here and punish a company in my district that’s doing a good job.”
Let’s make it a double…Rep. Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06) praised clean energy incentives, saying: “These tax credits have had an impact in my district — and on job creation, on investment, also national security, because of energy production and having wanted to bring that more domestically.” His district received $550 million in clean energy investments.
How about a triple? Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01) repeatedly defended clean energy incentives, saying: “By maintaining smart incentives, turbocharging innovation and harnessing the power of markets, we can secure America’s energy future, while creating lasting jobs and opportunities. …Repealing these credits without regard for investments already made would be a setback to clean energy and, importantly, economic growth.”
Is that Lil’ Jon we hear?
SHOT: Rep. Jeff Hurd (CO-03) and Rep. Gabe Evans (CO-08) both signed a letter advocating to preserve the clean energy tax credits and claimed that repealing these incentives would harm their constituents.
SHOT: Rep. Tom Barrett’s MI-07 district has seen $3.5 billion in investments, creating 4,125 new jobs. Barrett supported protecting clean energy projects that were already in motion and claimed he did not want to claw back grants that were already in progress.
SHOT: Rep. John James (MI-10) argued, “We must not neglect the sector-wide energy tax provisions that manufacturers and job creators rely on in my district and around the country.”
SHOT: Rep. Scott Perry’s PA-10 has seen $14.2 million in clean energy investment, and Perry has celebrated clean energy manufacturing and jobs created in his district.
SHOT: Rep. Mike Carey’s OH-15 has benefited significantly from clean energy incentives with $5.5 billion in investments and 7,894 new clean energy jobs. Carey has publicly celebrated clean energy investments and new manufacturing jobs in his district made possible by the IRA.
CHASER: Every single one of these House members made a decisive vote to sell out their constituents, kill clean energy incentives, hike up energy costs, and put thousands of jobs in their districts on the chopping block.
