SHOT/CHASER: Trump Claims to Focus on Energy Prices While Canceling Energy Projects that Would Lower Costs

After raising energy costs by 13%,Trump seems determined to best his own record by shutting down energy projects and bottlenecking energy supply

Washington, D.C. – As Trump grapples with underwater ratings and an affordability crisis of his own making, his administration claims to be “zeroed in” on lowering energy costs. However, Trump’s ongoing war on clean energy has shuttered energy projects across the country and stripped cheap, fast power off the grid, driving electricity costs up by 13% nationally. He even canceled five major energy projects in December, showing no signs of slowing down efforts to constrain our power supply and keep prices high.

Republicans know utility costs will continue to be a massive political liability – just like they were in the 2025 elections. Trump is so desperate to appear focused on costs that he took an unlawful military action in Venezuela to take over their oil, which won’t lower costs for consumers but will benefit billionaire oil executives

SHOT: Politico: “The White House has zeroed in on energy prices as a political and economic pressure point… [with a] belief that energy abundance will translate into lower prices.”

CHASER: Trump has slashed billions in funding and shuttered hundreds of clean energy projects across the country, bottlenecking our energy supply and driving energy costs through the roof. As a result, over one-third of Americans say their electricity bills are a “major” source of stress.
