State Rep. Aaron Márquez, Solar Experts and Homeowners Highlight IRA Solar Tax Credits to Keep Energy Costs Down for Arizona Families

(Phoenix, AZ) – Today, Arizona State Representative Aaron Márquez, solar industry leaders, and solar homeowners highlighted the urgent need to protect the solar tax credits included in the federal Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). These credits have helped Arizona families lower their energy and tax bills. The credits have also helped create good-paying jobs and grow Phoenix’s clean energy economy. With potential rollbacks in Congress, thousands of local jobs and critical consumer savings are at risk. Speakers called on Arizona’s congressional delegation to defend these tax credits and ensure continued investment in the state’s clean energy future.

Arizona State Representative Aaron Márquez addressed the cost-saving benefits to Phoenix residents and the national security implications. “As a veteran, I understand the importance of energy independence to our national security. The IRA’s solar tax credits not only provide significant savings for Phoenix families but also reduce our reliance on foreign energy sources. Rolling back these incentives would undermine both our economic and national security interests at a time of increasing uncertainties in the world.”

Adrian Keller, Arizona Program Director of Solar United Neighbors (SUN) of Arizona, highlighted the IRA’s impact on homeowners and businesses. “The IRA’s solar programs have empowered Arizona homeowners and businesses to harness clean energy, leading to lower utility bills and a more resilient energy grid. Programs like Solar for All and Direct Pay have been nothing short of game-changers in making solar energy accessible to all Arizonans.”

Chris Mejia, Partner and Chief Development Officer at Obodo Energy Partners, LLC, discussed the local economic benefits of their projects. “Our company is committed to developing local solar projects that not only provide clean energy but also deliver economic benefits to our community. These incentives have been pivotal in driving these projects forward—contributing to thousands of solar jobs in Arizona. Phoenix has seen record-breaking solar investment in recent years, and eliminating these tax credits would undermine our progress, jeopardizing both jobs and Arizona’s position as a leader in clean energy innovation.”

Karl Stambaugh, Arizona homeowner, shared his experience with solar credits and encouraged others to take advantage of them. “Installing a solar system for my home in 2022 was possible thanks to these tax credits, and in hindsight I can say that it has been one of the best financial decisions I’ve made. Every month, I’m reminded that clean energy is saving me money, and I’m thankful that the tax credits were able to lower the upfront installation costs and make this possible. Rolling back these credits would take away this choice for households like my own.”

Speakers concluded by emphasizing that protecting these investments is essential to sustaining Phoenix’s economic momentum. With thousands of new jobs and significant consumer savings at stake, they urged Congress to uphold the policies that have fueled private investment, job creation, and long-term growth in Arizona’s clean energy sector.
