This Week: A Tale of Two Candidates

Washington, D.C. — Kamala Harris is fresh off a successful DNC week – blowing RNC viewership out of the water, announcing hundreds of millions of dollars raised since entering the race, and inspiring voters across the political spectrum. Donald Trump, on the other hand, spent a lot of time ranting and tweeting in all caps.
ICYMI…or are still waiting for Beyonce to show up…here’s a recap:
BEST OF TIMES:
- Kamala Harris accepted the nomination for president on the final night of the DNC – where she also highlighted her commitment to protecting our air and water and combating the climate crisis.
- The convention’s final night put climate action in the primetime block – solidifying climate action’s place as a critical piece of Democrats’ pitch to voters.
- Since launching the campaign one month ago, Kamala Harris has garnered widespread enthusiasm and support, raising around $500 million and drawing 52% more than the RNC in convention TV ratings after 9 PM ET.
WORST OF TIMES:
- Donald Trump started throwing tantrums before the DNC even started. He spent his week melting down on live television, insisting on his right to make personal attacks, and spouting lies so obvious that he got fact-checked by Fox News hosts on Thursday morning before chasing him off the air on Thursday night.
- After excitement for Kamala Harris filled arenas in both Chicago and Wisconsin on the same night, Donald Trump spent the week ranting about crowd size, making up attendance numbers, and running ads begging people to come to his rally in Phoenix on Friday.
- This week, new FEC filings revealed that in July, Donald Trump raised only $48 million, one-quarter of what Vice President Harris’ campaign raised in the same period. Good thing Big Oil will always be around to bail him out!
Climate Power Communications Director Alex Glass issued the following statement:
“Kamala Harris and Tim Walz inspired DNC goers and voters across America this week with their plans for a brighter future – one that lowers costs for the middle class, creates millions of good paying clean energy jobs, and secures a future free from the pollution that fuels the climate crisis. Donald Trump, on the other hand, saw his fundraising stall as he begged Arizonans just to show up at his end-of-week rally. Kamala Harris is heating up, while Donald Trump is melting down.”
