Trump and Elon’s Cuts Impact Disaster Response in Louisville

Washington, D.C. — As severe storms and tornadoes that have already killed at least six people move through the Midwest and South, short staffing at local National Weather Service offices due to Trump’s layoffs has impacted forecasts and delayed tornado confirmations in Louisville. This comes after a number of weather balloon launches were suspended or reduced across the country due to short staffing. Trump’s cuts to NOAA and the National Weather Service are making Americans less safe and our forecasts less reliable during extreme weather.

Climate Power communications director Alex Glass issued the following statement:

“When families are waiting to find out if their home is in the path of a tornado, they need accurate information as quickly as possible. Trump’s attacks on NOAA and the National Weather Service are impacting life-saving alerts, complicating storm response, and putting people in danger.”
