Trump Ends $8 Billion Investment that Would Have Lowered Costs and Created Jobs

Washington, D.C. – In a display of brazen corruption, Donald Trump is cancelling $8 billion in investments in 16 states that did not vote for him in the 2024 election. These projects would have invested in communities, helped create good-paying jobs, and helped lower skyrocketing energy costs. Trump is making it blatantly clear that he has no interest in helping the American people, and his Republican allies in Congress are choosing to use Americans as political pawns rather than agree to protect health care access and decrease costs.

According to our new Energy Crisis Snapshot report and tracker, more than 80,500 clean energy jobs have already been lost or delayed under Trump, 47% of them in Congressional Districts represented by Republicans.

“Republicans who represent districts in these 16 states have a choice to make: do they stand with their constituents struggling with high costs, or Donald Trump? Will they stand up to the administration’s political retribution against their states and protect these investments to lower utility bills?” said Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee. “Time and time again, Republicans have shown they’re willing to drive up utility costs and send manufacturing jobs overseas to please Donald Trump. Between now and November, we’re going to make sure every Republican who lets Trump use the American people as a bargaining chip pays the political price.”
