Trump is Endangering Americans by Gutting NOAA and the National Weather Service

Washington, D.C. — Donald Trump has now fired hundreds of staff from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service – weakening services that provide life-saving information and making us less prepared for extreme weather. Trump and Elon Musk’s actions follow the  Project 2025 blueprint, which calls to eliminate and privatize the National Weather Service, effectively putting life-saving, free extreme weather alerts behind a paywall. As the owner of SpaceX, Musk could profit from the privatization of weather alerts and weather satellites.

Climate Power communications director Alex Glass issued the following statement:

“We are 93 days out from hurricane season, and Donald Trump is making Americans less safe and less prepared for life-threatening disasters. Trump and Musk are gutting the National Weather Service’s capacity to provide critical alerts to communities facing severe weather. This will endanger Americans who need accurate information to protect their families during a disaster. Trump is again prioritizing the profits of his billionaire buddies over the safety and security of the American people.”
