The national average price of gasoline is nearing a $4 per gallon “tipping point,” the price at which the majority of Americans start changing their driving habits or lifestyles
Trump and Republicans have taken a sledgehammer to EV manufacturing, stripping consumers of their choice in vehicles
Washington, DC – With the national average price of gasoline almost $4 per gallon thanks to Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran, Americans’ interest in EVs is surging, but they are finding fewer choices at higher costs because of Trump’s attacks on domestic EV manufacturing. Trump and Republicans ended the $7,500 tax credit for EVs in their budget bill, gutting the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry and leaving Americans with fewer options in the face of soaring gas prices.
From our school buses to USPS delivery trucks, Trump has forced our communities to rely on volatile oil and gas markets, leaving Americans especially vulnerable to global oil shocks. His attacks on EV affordability programs were already expected to raise gas prices by 25 cents to 37 cents per gallon by 2035. Now, gas prices have spiked by more than $1 on average since Trump’s war in Iran, and Americans have no other choice than to eat the costs because of him.
REMINDER: President Trump embraced high gas prices as a positive for the economy because “we make a lot of money,” and his billionaire oil and gas donors stand to get a $63 billion windfall.
Climate Power Senior Advisor Jesse Lee issued the following statement: “Since day one, Trump has ensured our government and our communities remained reliant on oil, gas, and coal. Now, in the middle of a global energy crisis that he created, he is celebrating skyrocketing gas prices because ‘we make a lot of money’ and spending a billion taxpayer dollars to take energy options off the grid, spiking utility bills even more. As speculation about his inner circle manipulating the markets to the tune of billions abounds, his donors in the oil and gas industry are lining their pockets like never before. All while American families pay the price at the pump, the grocery store, and at the airport.”
