Trump Raises Money From Big Oil While Hiding from Voters

Washington, D.C. — Donald Trump is in hiding. This month, Trump has had a notably light campaign schedule, avoiding large rallies (while making up new lies about crowd sizes) to hide out at Mar-a-Lago and attend fundraisers with Big Oil executives at private luxury resorts.

Clearly rattled by the energy and momentum behind Kamala Harris, Donald Trump has held only one campaign rally with voters and none in critical swing states. But Trump still made time for fundraisers hosted by Big Oil executives in Big Sky, MT, and Aspen, CO. Trump’s Big Sky fundraiser at an exclusive golf and ski resort for the ultrawealthy, was co-hosted by Liz Wright, wife of Chris Wright, CEO of Liberty Energy. Chris Wright attended Trump’s April fundraiser, where he asked a room full of Big Oil executives for $1 billion and promised them their day one wishlist. After Wright spoke at the event, Trump told the crowd that Wright could be his next Secretary of Energy. Trump’s Aspen fundraiser was co-hosted by Jeff Hildebrand of Hilcorp Energy, who hosted a Houston fundraiser where Trump added to his long list of promises to Big Oil when he asked them for $1 billion in April.

Climate Power Senior Advisor for Oil and Gas Alex Witt issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump’s low-energy campaign schedule won’t keep him away from Big Oil’s dirty money. While Trump’s laying low for fear his crowd sizes won’t measure up, Vice President Harris is talking to thousands of swing voters across the country. But while Trump’s avoiding voters’ questions about his dangerous Project 2025 agenda, he is holding court with ultrawealthy fossil fuel executives hoping they pay into their end of his $1 billion deal – which shows you exactly whose opinion he really cares about.”
