Trump to Disaster Survivors: You’re On Your Own

Washington, D.C. — Donald Trump plans to gut staff and funding that provide necessary aid to rebuild communities that have been devastated by climate disasters. Throughout Trump’s first term, he politicized disasters and withheld aid from survivors. Now, Trump is gutting the funding that helps families rebuild their homes.
Climate Power communications director Alex Glass issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump is making us less safe and less prepared for climate disasters. Trump is ripping away the resources that Americans rely on to rebuild after disasters and putting more financial burden on people who have already lost everything. Trump is sending a clear message to families devastated by wildfires, hurricanes, and floods: you’re on your own.”
Trump is making us less prepared for disasters and is abandoning survivors:
- Trump’s federal funding cuts stalled hiring for federal firefighters who fight and prevent wildfires.
- Trump is gutting FEMA and has even suggested eliminating the agency altogether.
- Trump is targeting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service, putting life-saving weather alerts at risk.
- In January, Trump threatened to withhold wildfire aid from Los Angeles until California changed its policies.
