Trump’s Day One Actions Put Americans at Risk

Washington, D.C. – Today, Donald Trump was sworn into office after a campaign where he promised oil and gas CEOs “a deal” – that in exchange for a billion dollars in contributions, he’d gut clean energy investments starting on day one of his presidency. Now, he’s making good on the promise. In response to today’s executive orders, Climate Power executive director Lori Lodes issued the following statement:
“Trump’s day-one, fossil-only agenda will result in more horrific climate disasters like the devastating California wildfires and limit American energy options, raising utility bills for families and sending hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs to China.
“The only way the U.S. can be the global energy leader is to compete and win the race for clean energy. Trump will squander an opportunity to lower costs and build a stronger, more reliable energy grid if he refuses to recognize the promise of made-in-America clean energy.”
As Trump undermines clean energy and clean air and water, here are some facts to keep in mind:
- FACT: The Inflation Reduction Act has already driven forward more than 750 new clean energy projects, creating more than 400,000 good-paying jobs.
- FACT: The majority of these new clean energy projects (405) and jobs (216,322) have flowed to Republican-held districts.
- FACT: Spurred by federal clean energy investments, factory construction is now at the highest levels in American history.
- FACT: Removing clean energy tax credits would cost over $336 billion and spike consumers’ electricity bills by an average of 10%.
- FACT: Americans are already saving billions from new tax breaks for EVs and home efficiency upgrades while lowering their monthly energy costs.
- FACT: There is no federal EV mandate.
- FACT: Unfettered LNG exports would spike domestic gas prices by over 30%.
- FACT: If Trump succeeds at kneecapping America’s booming clean energy economy, China would be the biggest beneficiary.
