Trump’s Wind Vendetta Causes 2nd Project Cancellation In a Week, Threatening Grid Reliability

Washington, D.C. – Donald Trump is escalating his attacks on clean energy, canceling a second wind energy project in less than a week, even though both had already been approved. Trump’s reckless decision will prioritize his personal hatred for wind turbines over Americans’ need for reliable power and threaten them with a higher risk of blackouts.
Climate Power Communications Director Alex Glass issued the following statement: “Donald Trump’s irrational dislike of wind turbines is killing jobs and making the power grid less reliable. Just days after canceling jobs and weakening the grid in New England, he’s at it again in Maryland – trying to gut a project that would power 718,000 homes. Despite promising energy dominance, Trump’s personal vendetta against clean energy is driving utility bills up while increasing the risk of blackouts, and the Republican party should expect to pay the political price.”
Trump’s personal vendetta against clean energy is hiking up costs for families:
- Trump’s obsession with wind turbines dates back to 2011, when offshore wind turbines were constructed off the coast of his Scottish golf course. Since then, he has regularly invented an unending series of delusions about problems with windmills that are completely unmoored from reality.
- The Revolution Wind project in New England was 80 percent completed and would have generated enough power for more than 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut.
- Canceling the Revolution Wind project will increase the risk of blackouts in New England.
- Maryland Offshore Wind has a planned generation capacity of 2,200 MW, enough to power more than 718,000 homes. The project is expected to support more than 1,300 jobs.
