Austin, Texas — Two years after the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the Biden-Harris clean energy plan is turbocharging the clean energy economy and revitalizing communities across Texas. The clean energy plan has spurred the creation of over 330,000 new jobs nationwide, with Texas ranking first for clean energy investments in low-income communities. In Texas’ low-income communities, companies have announced $13.44 billion in investment and the creation of 14,612 good-paying clean energy jobs, while Texas’ rural communities have seen project announcements totaling $1.06 billion in investment and 2,385 jobs.
Texas is also home to the second-most new clean energy projects, third-most new clean energy jobs, and fifth-largest investment in the country. Fifty-two new clean energy projects in Texas have already spurred over $17 billion in investment and helped create or move forward over 24,000 good-paying clean energy jobs.
Texas highlights:
- Tesla plans to invest $775 million toward expanding its Austin EV factory.
- Waarree announced it would invest $1 billion to open a solar manufacturing facility near Houston, creating 1,500 new jobs.
- In September 2023, Sirius PV announced a $35 million investment to open a solar manufacturing facility in Waller County, creating 450 new jobs.
- SEG Solar announced a new residential solar project that will bring 500 jobs to the state, with more on the way as the company uses savings from the clean energy plan’s tax credits to fund more manufacturing and support jobs.
“The Biden-Harris administration and Congressional Democrats’ clean energy plan is bringing good paying manufacturing jobs to Texas — uplifting local economies and lowering energy costs, all while lowering toxic emissions,” said André Crombie, Climate Power’s States Interim Managing Director. “From the Gulf Coast to Central and North Texas, families and workers are benefitting from a surging clean energy economy. Meanwhile, Texas Republicans have tried to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act over 30 times, even though the majority of new clean energy projects are in their districts, disproportionately benefitting their constituents.”
Thanks to the Biden-Harris clean energy plan, businesses have the security and stability they need to break ground on new facilities, creating good-paying jobs in the process.
