Vance Visits North Carolina In the Aftermath of Extreme Flooding, Highlighting Danger of His Extreme Views on Climate and Clean Energy

Raleigh, N.C. — Today, JD Vance visited North Carolina, which is currently recovering from once-in-1000-year flooding. Extreme heat and flooding are becoming more frequent in North Carolina as a result of climate change, and Trump and Vance will make the problem even worse. As president, Trump gutted 125 clean air and water protections. Trump and Vance will be even more dangerous if elected: Project 2025 would gut climate science, end clean energy investments, open drilling on protected lands, and hamstring our ability to respond to weather disasters like this week’s flooding.
“J.D. Vance knows nothing about North Carolina, or how strong our clean energy economy is here now because of the Biden-Harris administration’s investments in clean energy that don’t poison our environment,” says Terryn Hall, NC State Desk for Climate Power. “Instead, he wants to gut climate progress and use dirty energy sources that will continue to contribute to the climate crisis that have caused us to have such terrible storms.”
Trump said he wants to be a dictator on day one so that he can let corporate polluters poison our communities, prioritizing his own interests over future generations. Trump asked Big Oil executives to donate $1 billion to his campaign while promising to eliminate health and environmental protections and deliver them $110 billion in tax breaks. Project 2025 would lead to an increase of $32 billion more in total household energy costs for Americans as well as 1.7 million in total job losses in 2030.

As Attorney General, Kamala Harris secured over $50 million for taxpayers in settlements from Big Oil. As Senator, she introduced legislation to replace lead pipes. And as vice president, she cast the deciding vote to pass the clean energy plan, which has already created more than 330,000 clean energy jobs across the country, with nearly 12,000 here in North Carolina—jobs that will be at risk if Trump is re-elected.
