With Less Than A Month to Election Day, Republicans Are Losing Energy

It’s the “energy election,” and voters know Trump and Republicans are to blame for record-high gas, diesel, and utility costs
Washington, DC – Today marks 28 days to Election Day, and Republicans across the country are feeling the heat. Poll after poll, after poll show Americans blame Trump and Republicans for the cost-of-living crisis. And as gas and utility prices soar thanks to Trump and Republicans gutting clean energy, launching a war in Iran, and ramming through data centers whether communities want them or not, it’s no surprise.
Instead of taking meaningful action to hold the utility companies ripping off Americans in check, voting to stop Trump’s war in Iran that is sending gas prices through the roof, or putting guardrails on Big Tech’s data centers, Republicans are simply telling voters life could be worse, and that rising costs are a ‘small price to pay.’ Republicans’ policy failures have led to soaring prices of gas and utilities, and this reality is compounding to cement a powerful feeling for voters – Republicans do not care about American families, they only care about enriching themselves and their donors.
This year’s midterms are about rising energy costs, and voters know Republicans are failing to provide solutions. With 28 days to the election, Americans have had enough of Republicans’ lies and excuses, and they are prepared to hold them accountable at the ballot box this November.
Voters know Trump and congressional Republicans broke their promise of cheaper energy, and now American families and businesses are footing the bill while the GOP’s billionaire donors cash in. Here’s just a few highlights of how their disastrous energy policy is harming working people:
- Trump and the GOP ran on slashing energy costs. Instead, they have cost the average family at least $2,000 extra since Trump took office. That’s the impact of Trump’s tariffs, his ‘blockade’ of cheaper clean energy, and his failing war in Iran — and the costs keep piling up.
- This year, diesel prices have hit all-time record highs, increasing by nearly three dollars since last year thanks to Trump and Republicans’ war of choice in Iran.
- Thanks to Trump and Republicans, over 400 clean energy projects have been canceled, delayed or hit by layoffs, resulting in enough lost generation to power nearly 22 million homes. The result is utility bills up 15% nationally as of August, having spiked as much as 18% over the past year.
- As of September 11, Americans have spent over $121 billion more on energy since the war started, amounting to roughly $930 per household.
- According to the NEADA, Americans could face more than $500 in additional heating costs compared to before Trump’s war.
- Record-high diesel prices are forcing farmers, truckers, and small businesses to quit or are squeezing already razor-thin margins
- Big Oil is expecting a multibillion-dollar windfall from the high prices driven by Trump’s war in Iran. U.S. oil companies could see a more than $60 billion boost from the war.
- A report from Bank of America found that utility bills skyrocketed faster than inflation over the summer.
- Republicans gave tax breaks to Big Tech companies in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, helping supercharge their massive data center expansion. Meanwhile, Trump is advocating to ‘let Data reign’ and ramming data centers through without any guardrails.
- Trump’s calls for Big Tech companies to build their own power supply for data centers would still raise utility bills.
- After donating tens of millions to the Trump-Vance campaign, Big Oil and Gas execs secured an estimated $190 billion in tax breaks through the Republicans’ OBBBA.
