Michigan Clean Energy Boom Report
Passing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has kicked America’s clean energy sector into high gear, transforming Michigan into a solar and electric vehicle battery manufacturing powerhouse. Across the state, new clean energy projects have already spurred $21.3 billion in investment, the 3rd highest in the nation, and created or moved forward over 16,600 good-paying clean energy jobs, the 4th most in the country. Since the IRA’s passage, 30 new clean energy projects have been announced or moved forward in Michigan, the most across any state in the nation. Projects span five sectors – solar, electric vehicles, batteries, wind, and other clean technologies. In Michigan’s rural communities, two projects have spurred $2.41 billion in investment and the creation of 2,395 good-paying clean energy jobs. The IRA will continue to accelerate the clean energy jobs boom while lowering energy costs for families, investing in disadvantaged communities, and reducing climate pollution across the state.
